Some years ago, I and a friend put together a list of TOP 10 MOVIES of all time. We allowed a series, such as The Godfather I & II, to occupy one slot. We made a second list, which we called second tier, in which we placed 20 also-rans. New candidates for either list must be at least 10 years old, which accounts for the absence of Pulp Fiction from our [original] Top 10.

These pages serve to document our work and to demonstrate why we like the movies.

DD - August '98
Our new page (you are viewing it now!) was updated in February 2008.  A few things have changed since we created our original movie page in 1998.  For one, Pulp Fiction is now more than 10 years old, and can be included in our list of favorite films.  For another, there are some new faces in Hollywood that have been included in the revamped pages.

We still like going to the movies, and we still have a preference for the old stuff. While there are some current movies that we feel will make the grade as memorable cinema, most of tody's films are schlock -- mindless action and repetative teen slop.  I guess Hollywood needs to make money, so that two or three of four times a year they can produce something meaningful and lasting.

Quentin Tarrentino deserves a slot in the second tier for his main body of work: Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown and Reservoir Dogs.
